Treatment Guidelines
Laser Hair Removal
Before Treatment
- Shave: Shave the treatment area at least 24 hours before your appointment. This reduces the risk of burning.
- Avoid sun exposure: Tanning and sunburns can make it harder for the laser to target hair follicles.
- Avoid plucking and waxing: Stop plucking and waxing the treatment area for at least four to six weeks before your first appointment.
- Exfoliate: Gently exfoliate before your appointment to remove dead skin cells.
- Avoid skincare irritants: Avoid products that contain retinol, salicylic acid, and hydroxy acids for about three days before your appointment.
- Wear loose clothing: Wear loose, breathable clothing on the day of your appointment to prevent irritation.
- Arrive with clean skin: Shower the day of your appointment.
Microneedling
Before Treatment
- Don't expose your skin to the sun without sunscreen for at least 1-2 weeks before your appointment.
- STOP hydroquinone, retinol, and exfoliating acids at least 3 days prior to treatment.
- Avoid Retin-A, retinol, or other products derived from Vitamin A, 7 days before treatment.
- Avoid blood thinning agents for a week before treatment.
- Consult with your healthcare provider before stopping any prescribed medication.
- Avoid waxing, threading, or depilatory creams for 10–14 days.
- If you're prone to cold sores, take an antiviral agent for 2 days before and the day of treatment.
After Treatment
It’s normal to experience skin tightening, itching, peeling, burning, mild discomfort, and redness after receiving microneedling. All symptoms should subside in 72 hours.
Don't
- Don’t apply anything to the skin for 24 hours.
- Don’t expose yourself to sun for 24 hours.
- Don’t expose yourself to extensive sun or heat for 72 hours.
- Don’t use active ingredients (retinoids, vitamin C) for 1 week.
Do
- Start with a gentle cleanser after 24 hours.
- Apply a gentle moisturizer approved by your provider after 24 hours.
- Notify your provider if you have a history of cold sores or develop a cold sore after your treatment.
VI Peel
Before Treatment
- Don't expose your skin to the sun without sunscreen for at least 1-2 weeks before your appointment.
- STOP hydroquinone, retinol, and exfoliating acids at least 3 days prior to treatment.
- Avoid Retin-A, retinol, or other products derived from Vitamin A, 7 days before treatment.
- Let your provider know if you have a history of cold sores.
- Avoid waxing, threading, or depilatory creams for 10–14 days.
- Stay hydrated with a gentle moisturizer leading up to your treatment
BroadBand Light
Before Treatment
- Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanners for at least 2–4 weeks before treatment.
- Use sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher daily.
- Avoid oral antibiotics that cause photosensitivity, such as doxycycline or Oracea, 2–3 weeks before treatment.
- Avoid Retin-A, retinol, or other products derived from Vitamin A, 7 days before treatment.
- Avoid waxing, superficial chemical peels, and products containing salicylic acid or glycolic acids for 1 week prior to treatment.
- Inform your provider if you have a history of cold sores.
- Inform your provider if you have any areas with permanent make-up or tattoos.
After Treatment
It’s normal to experience redness and brown spots. Redness may last about 24 hours, and brown spots will slough off over the next week or so.
Don't
- Don’t expose yourself to sun for 2 weeks prior and 2 weeks after.
Do
- Wear sunscreen.
Facials
Before Treatment
- Avoid using retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, or other exfoliating products for 48 hours before your appointment.
- Avoid using prescription skincare products, masks, and self-tanners 1-2 days before your facial.
- Avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning beds for at least one week before your treatment.
- Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher daily.
Fillers
After Treatment
It’s normal to experience some swelling, redness, bruising, and pain at the injection site after receiving dermal filler. All symptoms should subside in 7-14 days.
Don't
- Don’t manipulate or massage area that was injected unless instructed by injector.
- Don’t exercise strenuously for 48 hours.
- Don’t get a facial for 2 weeks.
Do
- Use Tylenol (Acetaminophen) for discomfort.
- Try to sleep face up and slightly elevated to minimize swelling.
- Use Arnica and Vitamin K to reduce bruising and swelling.
- Wait a minimum of 4 weeks before laser treatments or microneedling.
- Wait a minimum of 2 weeks for dental procedures.
- Wait a minimum of 4 weeks for all vaccines.
Neurotoxins
After Treatment
It’s normal to experience some swelling, bruising, and a headache after receiving neurotoxins. All symptoms should subside in 24 hours, but bruising can take up to 2 weeks to subside.
Don't
- Don’t manipulate or massage area that was injected.
- Don’t get a facial for 2 weeks after injections.
- Don’t exercise for 24 hours.
- Don’t wear hats for 3 days.
Do
- Remain upright for 8 hours after injection.
Chemical Peel
After Treatment
It’s normal to experience skin tightening, itching, peeling, burning, mild discomfort, an increase in dark spots, and redness after receiving a chemical peel. Symptoms will subside, but some can last up to seven days.
Don't
- Don’t have sun exposure for 7 days post-treatment.
- Don’t rub, pull, pick, or itch the peeling the skin—this can cause irritation, scarring, and pigmentation.
- Don’t do activities that cause excessive sweating for 3-5 days after your VI Peel treatment (includes exercise, sauna, hot tub, and steam room).
- Don’t use hot water when cleansing your face.
Do
- Use the VI Peel Aftercare Kit for 7 days post-treatment.
- Follow the step-by-step instructions in the booklet included in the kit given to you after your treatment.
- Follow the specific, daily instructions for days 1-7 post-treatment.
- Stay hydrated and drink lots of water.
- Wash hands with soap and water after applying each towelette.
